Blow up L.A.: The Art of Blowing Up Your City Info

Crewest proudly announces “Blow Up L.A.: The Art of Blowing Up Your City” an exhibition opening on February 4, 2012 and curated by Gonzo247 of Aerosol Warfare. Blow Up L.A.! is part of the traveling Blow Up (Your City!) Aerosol Warfare exhibition which features customized Jamungo BUD & NADE vinyl dolls by national and local artists as well as other artwork. Artists with backgrounds in graffiti, street art, design, illustration and other urban expressions will customize the urban vinyl toys with no given limitations. The stylized urban toys dolls and other artwork will be on display and for sale at Crewest Gallery from Feb 4, 2012 through Feb. 26, 2012.

Exhibit closes on February 26, 2012.

CHAZ BOJORQUEZ: INTERSTICIOS URBANOS

Our good friend and legendary L.A. artist Chaz Bojórquez was recently invited to Mexico City to participate in an art show called "Intersticios Urbanos", which featured his work as well as the work of other street artists from all over Latin America.

From the Intersticios Urbanos website:
"Intersticios Urbanos es una cartografía que inicia una ruta crítica sobre los desplazamientos del graffiti hacia prácticas intermediales, focalizada en México, su frontera con Estados Unidos, en diálogo con América del Sur y España. Presenta pintura, gráfica, acciones, intervenciones, así como archivos sonoros y visuales para crear una constelación de diversas posiciones en torno al arte urbano, la performance y el graffiti."

Two Rabbits Studios is a design firm, commercial screen print shop, and fine art studio ran by Los Angeles-based artists Mike Thacker and Bob Motown. Since 2007, the pair have designed and printed hundreds of rock posters and promotional pieces for movies and video games. Two Rabbits started small in a North Hollywood backyard—less than five years later, and they've been featured in galleries, Flatstock poster shows, and craft fairs in the United States and UK. They've worked with Warner Music Group and concert promoters Goldenvoice for artists ranging from Skrillex to Wu Tang to Portishead. Recently, Thacker and Motown's focus has been on fine art pieces that reflect upon their hand-printed process and design.

We opened 2012 with our first event of the year.
We asked selected artists to each take over a section of the gallery walls with their own installation and paint them live during Saturday nite's opening.

Thanks to the ever steady beats of Dj Phyz Ed, the crowd enjoyed themselves and the results were amazing.

LA MURAL ORDINANCE STRATEGY SESSION

LA Mural Ordinance Strategy Session
We would like to invite you to attend this strategy session to plan for the

City of LA Planning Commission Hearing on Tuesday January 10th at 1PM.

The meeting at Crewest is geared to working artists with a special focus on

graffiti artists and those that support their work.  We would like to encourage

people from the community - even non-artists - to come to this meeting to support

and contribute ideas.

We will be planning on what we want to say at the LA Planning Commission hearing,

assigning topics to different speakers, discussing a plan of attack and answering

any questions you may have about the impact of the proposed ordinance on graffiti

artists, muralists and the community.

This ordinance will affect your mural work in the City of LA for many years to

come. This is a chance to plan action that can still affect the outcome.

Two Rabbits Solo Show "Buy Product" Opens:

Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 6 – 10 pm during the Downtown Artwalk

Crewest has just opened a third room to our gallery space namely “The Front Room”, making it now a larger, high ceiling, 3 room gallery space. A new solo show by a special guest artist will open in The Front Room every artwalk night. Come out this coming artwalk to view "Buy Product" a Solo Show by Two Rabbits.

“Buy Product” will feature the latest work of Two Rabbits which drastically focuses on the repurposing of their by-product. From their test prints to their mixing sticks, Two Rabbits see the chaos and beauty of their artistic endeavors in everything that's left over. Two Rabbits have taken what many consider to be useless scrap and turned it into beautiful works of color and shape to display.

“Buy Product” will be on display from January 12 through February 5, 2012

AUDIO CANVAS 3 OPENS SATURDAY, JANUARY 7TH, 2012

Audio Canvas 3 kicks off this weekend with a live painting event on Saturday, January 7^th, 2012 from 3-9pm at Crewest Gallery. All are welcome to come down to Crewest on Saturday for the Audio Canvas 3 kick off featuring live painting by Axa, Pops, Max Neutra, Vyal, Robert Vargas,
Man One, AISE and the YR Crew.

Each artist will be creating an installation while using their favorite tools and techniques for the public to experience firsthand the type of energy and kind of ingenuity it takes for each masterpiece to be created.

In conjunction with the live painting event, live music will be played by DJ’s who will be mixing up some all-time beats to boost the occasion for everyone to enjoy. DJ’s for the event are curated by DJ Phyz Ed who selected a group of special guest DJ’s to spin a set each. Art + Music are what will make the kick off to Audio Canvas 3 a great time to be.

After January 7, 2012, the installations created by the artists will be on display through January 29, 2012.

JOSH MAYHEM'S ASKEW RANGERS

"Murder Mouse"

Currently on display and for sale during December, we have "The Askew Rangers" by Josh Mayhem. Mayhem describes his Askew Rangers as "heavily armed creatures from the forest of the future battling for supremacy in a world where survival of the fittest is the only law of the jungle. This custom series displays vibrant colors and crisp lines utilizing simple paint foundations as complimentary backdrops to an overwhelming display of weaponry and accessories. A recycling element is seen as an underlying tone in this collection. Pieces of scrap metal, wires from vintage electronics and weaponry accessories from the creator’s massive collection of vintage action figures serve as a reminder of the rooted toy history and originality each individual piece holds. Every Askew Ranger has some form of a working component to it including working lights, spring loaded and moveable devices, and removable elements that evoke the versatility of a an action figure with the visual aesthetic of a vinyl toy."

Robert Lebsack is a Long Beach based artist whose work focuses on social and cultural issues using torn newspapers as context. By utilizing bits and pieces of headlines, articles and ads as the base for his mixed media pieces, the viewer can use their own interpretation and random image word association to bring meaning to each individual piece.

TODD ROBERTSON'S "MECHA" STYLE

“Keeping in touch with normality and focusing on what connects us together, I hope to inspire and provoke the human spirit”. - Todd Robertson

Todd Robertson is an artist born in Michigan, raised in Connecticut and loves to make custom toys. Now residing in Boston, Todd works with found objects, anything from paper to broken electronics and incorporates those objects info his pieces. Todd gains inspiration from the normality of everyday, looking for those simple connections that hold us all together. Thus his incorporated found objects are his way of relaying his inspiration from the normality of everyday.

Today, Robertson uses what he calls a "mecha" style when creating his toys. He describes his mecha concept "as if it was a virus encapsulating each individual piece. It might be an arm, a leg or half a face, the mecha virus can be manipulated endlessly." It was Todd's "mecha" style which we instantly loved when Todd first showed us the type of custom toys he creates.

Todd is showing in December at Crewest several of his custom Kaiju toys that incorporate his mecha virus. We know you will absolutely love his pieces. It was love at first with us and we hope you too have the same feeling we got.

EVOLVE WITH GRAHAM CURRAN

Graham Curran is an artist from Torrance, CA and is showing at Crewest during December for the Crewest Holiday Bazaar. Born in 1986 Graham graduated from CSULB in 2010 with a BFA in Illustration.

When selecting the artists who were going to show for the December show, it was Grahams beautiful imagery painted on boxing gloves which really captured our eye. We saw his artwork painted on boxing gloves to be very unique and something we definitely wanted to show and display for all to see.

Look below for a sneak peak of these beautiful boxing gloves, inspired by Rocky IV, in which Graham has titled "The Fighter's".

"The Fighters" are not all we will have on display by Graham Curran. Also on display by this artist will be the above painting titled "Big Glow", a set of Russian nesting dolls titled "It’s a Zoo in Here" and a custom Munny inspired by Mad Men titled "Mad Munny".

If you want to see "It's a Zoo in Here" and "Mad Munny" as well as the other artwork by Graham, you will need to come on by and check out these pieces while they are on display in December.

Chicago-based professional packaging design firm STUDIO ONE ELEVEN, a division of Berlin Packaging, agreed to collaborate with world-renowned graffiti artist MAN ONE from Los Angeles to envision the future of spray paint technology and packaging. Together, they created PAINT THE FUTURE, a first-of-it’s kind design exhibit for the CANCEPTUAL V.4 art exhibit at Crewest Gallery in Los Angeles, being held from September 8-October 2, 2011.

Hopefully these prototypes will be of interest to paint companies who would like to advance the sophistication of the world class graffiti artist.

“CANceptual v.4” will debut September 8, 2011 at Crewest Gallery in Los Angeles during the Downtown Artwalk from 6 to 10 pm with music by DJ Phyz Ed and refreshments provided by Jarritos and Roaring Lion Energy Drink and will be on view through October 1, 2011. CANceptual V.4, a large group show, will feature over 70 urban artists who create contemporary and edgy works of art using a spray can as their canvas. This show is dedicated to innovation through creation and design.

With retrospect to the last CANceptual shows Crewest has produced in the past years (2007 – 2009), this year’s CANceptual will be different in innovation and will showcase an installation in the Featured Artist Room entitled “Paint the Future”.

“Paint The Future” (PTF) is a first-of-its kind art and design installation created for Canceptual V.4. PTF will ask: What does spray paint look like when graffiti artists design their own? What would paint manufacturers create if they consulted with professional graffiti artists as Nike does with Michael Jordan for basketball shoes? World renowned American graffiti artist Man One will collaborate with award winning design firm Studio One Eleven, to find answers to these questions. Paint The Future is being curated by Man One Design.

WORKS BY DESTROY ALL DESIGN

This piece is entitled “800 LBS Gorrillastroy” and was created by Destroy All Design. This character seeks revenge. He is now a revenant and destined to destroy those who controlled him in a former life using the same device in which those used to control him. If you look into the eyes of the gorilla you will see a joystick symbolizing the device mankind has used to control this gorilla for years and years.

Destroy All Design primarily uses the joystick in all of their works. Whether it being a single joystick, a pile of joysticks, a background with joysticks, etc. It’s kinda of like “Where’s the joystick” going to be? Anytime you see a Joystick piece just know that’s a Destroy All Design piece. You never know when one will pop up. Right now, two are hanging at Crewest.

The “800 LBS Gorrillastroy” was created in 2011 and created using the following mediums: Mixed media spray paint on wood.

"EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OK" BY MAX NEUTRA

This piece, at first glance, could be seen as the typical mushroom cloud explosion we all fear as 2012 approaches. However, the artist has his own deeper interpretation. The mushroom cloud depicted in this piece by the artist is an explosion within the mind of mankind telling us all “Everything will be ok”. Positive mantras like this are what can roll us through life too look at any life threatening or even simple matters in a more positive way.

The name of this piece is called “Everything is Going to be OK” and was created by Max Neutra. The artist used the following medium: Acrylic on Canvas

BOMBS AWAY BY KAZILLA

This piece is entitled “Bombs Away” and is by the artist Kazilla who has “an instant love affair with all natural highs and all things to do with art and expression”.

In her piece she shows just that and this is her poetic explanation: In a post-apocalyptic world, we live in fear and despair. The only way to combat the end of days is with the pure love in our hearts. The days pass by like grains of sand through my fingertips. There is no music, no laughter or songs. There are only the drops of bombs, like rainfall in the early morning.

The earth shakes and my body quakes. I push out the hate that disintegrates all life and drop my own cherry bombs of love on these ignorant warmongers. Every bomb that drops and levels miles of city, land and lives, I plant a seed of life. Every bullet they shoot my way, I blow a kiss at them. They throw hand grenades, I hold their hands. In the warm embrace of death, I simply embrace them with pure affection.

Partners With Crewest Gallery In Downtown Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA - July 21, 2011 - The 5th Annual Estria Invitational Graffiti Battle, a nationwide urban art competition that honors and advances creativity in the Hip Hop arts, is partnering with Crewest Gallery, downtown Los Angeles’ leading graffiti and street art gallery. The event will take place on Saturday, August 13, 2011 on 110 Winston St. in front of Crewest, from 12-6pm. There will be 12 artists competing for a chance to advance to the final battle in Oakland, CA this fall. Artists competing in the competition will be announced as the battle day approaches.

"We are very excited to be partnering up with the Estria Foundation in hosting this incredible event for the first time in Los Angeles. The Graffiti Battle will bring together some of our city's most talented artists and hundreds of fans to experience a unique block party event in front of our Downtown gallery for all to experience.We can't wait for the creativity and enthusiasm that this event will bring to our City and most especially to our local youth." - ManOne (Founder Crewest Gallery)

In addition to the Graffiti Battle, a Black Book Battle will be happening simultaneously and will hold three categories - Youth (12-21), Adult (21+), and a Women’s only division. To participate in the Black Book Battle you must sign up the day of the event. The first 30 to sign up will receive a Crescent Graffiti Paper Sketch Pad to use in the battle, (all supplies will be provided to participants).

WHY 2012 AS THE THEME FOR UPCOMING EXHIBIT “UNEARTHED”?

2012 is a year most of us can’t seem to ignore. What is going to happen to our planet? What changes will occur? What can we do?

The year 2012 was selected as the theme for “Unearthed” because it pertains to all of us. We all have questions about what is going to happen. We all have fears of what is going to happen.

Year 2012 will be depicted through the views of urban artists and established illustrators from across the world in a comic art form.

The usage of comic art in this show is to show power, hope and unity of that mystery and that power of knowledge which could “unearth” itself for the preservation of all.

Immortal spirits, robots, creatures, super heroes, powerful women and villians will unearth in this exhibit. Each will have a power, each will have a mission.

In a deeper sense, each character will represent us and will become someone we would want to be in order to attack the mystery of 2012.

Crewest and Curator Luna George is proud to announce the opening of our newest installation “UNEARTHED”, which will exist on our walls as a larger than life visual comic book brought to life by some of our best graffiti and street urban artists. With a storyline written by author and artist Gustavo Alberto Garcia Vaca, the walls of the gallery will become an actual comic book live for all to see and immerse themselves into. In addition, Crewest will publish and release “UNEARTHED” the comic book featuring the artwork in the exhibit and storyline just in time for this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

“UNEARTHED” features works by underground urban artists from around the world who have created visual elements in the form of never before seen characters who unearth from the underground in the year of 2012 on the day of the Apocalypse. Each of the exhibiting artists all share a strong ability in creating characters whether designed for street murals, album covers, published comic strips or actual comic books. We are very excited about this unique pairing of underground urban talent telling the tale of an Apocalyptic 2012 within the context of a gallery exhibition. Concept created by Luna George.

Art has always needed a vehicle to push out its message and its meaning. In the early 70's a new breed of NY artists, took that concept literally! This was the beginning of subway art.

Ever since that radical approach to art making was conceived, the (art) world has never
been the same. This simple concept that creating art on vehicles to literally move your message around the city was brilliant! So much so, now corporations spend millions on buying billboard space on subways, buses, commuter trains and even the sides of high traffic highways all over the world.

This exhibit explores this fairly new phenomenon of art making on vehicles. The artist has expanded
their canvas to include the corrugated metal sides of trains, buses, cars, freeways, etc. to recapture the beauty and expression of their urban environment.

This exhibit will feature original paintings, photography, and even small scaled versions of trains, automobiles, and miniature freeway signs painted by urban artists. Also included in the exhibition are beautiful images of automobiles as art and the dialogue created when they are placed within a certain environment.

ART STATEMENT:
With exploding eyes and a grimacing smile, my skull was
designed to engage the viewer and to burn my tag in their mind.

No longer having the need to tag the streets, doesn’t mean I have
stopped tagging. Instead, I now want to leave a lasting impression,
an image that you will never forget.

The halo is a representation of the West Coast Angels, graffiti writers
of Los Angeles, and a symbol of protection that spells out the original name of the city:

"El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora La Reina de Los Angeles del Rio de Porciuncula"

In May, Crewest celebrates it's 9 Year Anniversary!

Being the first and longest running brick and mortar gallery in L.A. exclusively dedicated to graffiti we thought this show better be special.

We decided to put on a group show to not only inspire but also educate our viewers and followers about the historical contribution of some of these great graffiti artists from the West Coast.

“No Biters Allowed” is an exhibition featuring the work of artists who have been painting graffiti or active since the 1980’s and from the West Coast. These artists were pivotal in transforming the landscape of what graffiti and urban art is all about to us.

All these artists had their roots in graffiti painting and writing. Some of these artists have gone on to become fine artists, graphic designers, and self-employed owners of different companies. Others have chosen to work as mentors to young people by offering their graffiti creativity as a positive source of inspiration.

This exhibit will focus on the artwork old and new created by some of today’s most recognized street legends from that golden era.

MAX NEUTRA CREATES A BOOM BOX FEVER

About the Film:
"Un Minuto" is a classic example of Mexican Mythology, wherein our main character is a wicked man that cheats on his wife, neglects his children and spends too much time in the cantinas. His wife, however does not sit idly by; she prays daily for a miracle that will return the kind and loving man she fell in love with. God enters the picture when he chooses to answer her prayers in his own unique way that takes her husband to the very gates of Hell.

"The film is based on a story that was told to us as kids, and has been handed down in our family for several generations. My grandfather was said to know the man in the story personally, and witnessed his transformation from sinner to Saint with his own eyes. We filmed the story in Baja California's Ruta del Vino just 20 minutes from Ensenada, and received the generous support of the UDC film school and their students. The people of the Valle de Guadalupe also bought in and pitched in everything we needed and did not already have. They housed us and fed us and you'll see many of them as extras throughout the film. I truly hope you enjoy the film as much as I did making it." ~ Hector Miranda

About the Filmmaker:
Hector Miranda came to Los Angeles in 1997 after a fight with Cancer lit a fire in his belly to achieve something with the rest of his life. With a ‘do or die’ attitude he worked his way into the prestigious UCLA School of Film and Television where he took part in the famed screenwriting program and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2000. Since then he has worked in broadcast operations for a number of television networks including the NFL Network and Sony Television. He worked as a camera operator for several years and spent time as a technical director for GSN’s live show “Playmania.” Working by day while writing by night; Hector’s passion for story telling is evident in the strong characters he creates and the raw human drama he squeezes from the everyday existence we all must deal with.

For those of you who grew up in LA in the early 90's
Sahl was the hidden moniker you spotted at the bus stop,
on street poles, in alley ways, and almost every other
conceivable landmark that could be written on if you looked
closely. His talent for catching the right spot that would
never get buffed was remarkable.

Nowadays he's put away the meanstreak and pulled out the
camera. Still relying on his eye for getting up, he is
flicking the City of Angels as he walks it and as he sees it.

He's been capturing some amazing shots that only a true
writer can discover and sharing them with us all.

LEO "CATZzzz" LIMON

For 35 plus years Leo Limon has been painting the Los Angeles River cat faces on the storm-drain covers and is involved with groups whose efforts are to revive the Los Angeles River as a historic region, cultural art enclave and tourist destination.

Check out this quick video of him spray painting up one of his cats in the LA River. (We love the commentary of the passerby hater):

Over the years he has developed these cat paintings as a result of his work in the LA River:

His new multimedia work includes actual "abatement" pieces which he peels off the walls of the city. The grey on the top side shows where the city is trying to cover up the colorful talent of the young graff artists spray painted on the other.

He is an artist, an activist, and a veteran.

His work will be on display during our February exhibition:

We are very shocked and sorry to say that artist Dash "2000" Fidel passed away in his sleep after battling cancer on Sunday, January 9th, 2010. The news of his passing hit the hearts of many as he was well known within the art community for his friendship, talent and cutting edge signature style pieces.

Dash "2000" Fidel had shown at the gallery many times over the years. His last piece he had on display at the gallery was in October during the Faces of Skid Dow exhibition which was a benefit for the homeless living on Skid Row. Dash was considered not only a friend of the gallery but a talented artist with a promising future.

We send all our love and support to the family, friends and the UTI crew.

Street Degrees of Separation is a group show with artists from around the world, coming together to kick off the new year. 2011 will bring amazing new work, new projects and new art by some of today’s greatest street-artists, and while artists prepare for what they will unleash on walls across the planet, they found themselves coming together for this show. Street Degrees explores the global connection of street-artists and their unified motive in the new year: Reinvention.

The show brings artists from Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Texas, UK, Sweden, Indonesia and much more. This is the message for the Sharpie graff battle this coming Saturday being
produced by Narconon Professional Drug Prevention.

Grand prize:
$200 (plus design will be converted into an official
tee for the Kingdom Day Parade in January 2011)

2nd prize:

The competition is limited to the first 30 contestants ages 15+.

Battle guidelines:
1. The message must be readable.

2. Style of the design needs to communicate the message. It is very important that the word “ruin” is not confused with “kill” in the design.

3. Your piece must be designed live at the battle (Sharpies and paper will be provided).

4. To register, please go to www.itsfuntobeme.org and click on Graffiti Battle and it will take you to the instructions to register.

5. As the winning piece will be representing “Narconon Professional Drug Prevention” it is important that you stand behind the message.

**Aside from the cash prizes, the first place design will have 300 t-shirts printed and worn by the exhibitors and performers in the Kingdom Day Parade held on January 17, 2011.

The remaining t-shirts will be distributed throughout the crowd. A t-shirt will be given to the Channel 7 commentator as we approach the judges’ stand.
This parade airs to millions of people and tens of thousands of people attend.

The winning piece will also be on 500 booklets with the title, “Ten Things Your Friends May Not Know About Drugs”, and will be given to the Channel 7 commentator along with the t-shirt.

In addition, the event will be filmed and your piece will be sent to two organizations in Washington, D.C. who are appointed to oversee the Los Angeles activities for the Martin Luther King Day celebration for 2011. Also, an international press release will be sent out through Narconon International about you and your piece.

After the success of last year’s “The Sharpie Show”, Crewest and Man One have decided to bring back this exhibition to Los Angeles with “The Sharpie Show II”. Travis Moore impressed us all at the last Sharpie Show with his massive monster of a piece “The Wait of the World” which entailed fine lines designed by his own creative vision. His piece is still unforgettable. This year, Crewest is proud to present Travis Moore as December’s featured artist. His enthusiasm and dedication to using Sharpies as his preferred tool to making outstanding art will be injected into a super Sharpie installation on display and in conjunction with the exhibit all month long. CREWEST AT BEYOND EDEN

Once again Crewest took part in this year’s Beyond Eden, a multi gallery event showcasing talent from select Los Angeles galleries. Showing for Crewest were works by the following outstanding artists Chaz Bojorquez, PaperMonster, Miguel Paredes, Man One, Victor Sepulveda, Huit, WERC, and Mefee.

On display by Chaz Bojorquez was one of his rarest prints (available only through Crewest) “Los Avenues” a limited edition serigraph, one or two printed in 1987, Los Avenues was made using a very extensive process by the artist. The paper is first prepared using ‘zolatone’ paint (a multi-colored automotive industrial paint) prior to printing the silkscreen image. Then using sandpaper to wear down the letters into the background creating an ‘asphalt’ street look. He then layed down three separate stencils and paint with spray cans, two white highlights off the cross, and a black border around the entire print.

PaperMonster had an entire wall where four of his most compelling pieces hung just waiting for art lovers to look closer and notice the layers involved in each piece. People do not realize the amount of layers and work involved in the art made by this stencil artist. Today, stencil artists are getting more and more in depth with their craft everyday and PaperMonster is a stencil artist who pushes the envelope by layering the canvas with hand cut comic book pages. He sprays his stencil with great precision and no overspray. Crewest believes he has brought the art of stenciling to a new level.

Miguel Parades, who recently had a solo show at Crewest, had four pieces on display. Art lovers are very attracted to the bright colors and subject matter of the artwork by the hard working Miguel Paredes.

Man One had several pieces on display; one in particular was his 2008 aerosol on canvas piece titled “Power Trip”. Art lovers were really taking their time looking at this piece. Power Trip was created as his direct reaction to the destruction and removal of one of the most historical moments in Los Angeles graffiti history, Meeting of Styles LA in 2007 (“MOS-LA”). MOS-LA was an event organized by Man One, Crewest and The Friends of the LA River where over 200 artists painted 10,000 square feet of aerosol murals in a two-day festive event at the Arroyo Seco in the LA River. Even though it was fully permitted by LA County, they later changed their minds and decided to fully censor the murals by buffing all of the work of over 200 of the most talented artists in Los Angeles. Showing at Beyond Eden, were works by some of the artists who participated on MOS-LA whose works are priced in the thousands by the way. These same including Mear, Chaz Bojorquez, Man One and Werc.

We waited months for the works by Mefee to arrive. We were overly excited to release long awaited works by Mefee at Beyond Eden.

Dedicated and from over seas, Huit had one solid piece on display which showed his own futuristic, high tech vision of a modern city.

Victor Sepulveda whose work has extended beyond the constraints of the automobile exterior into the fine art world with his beautifully rendered drawings and paintings of Mexican Revolutionary figures had several collaboration pieces with Man One on display during Beyond Eden.

WERC had a few pieces which give without asking for a return and become a challenge for the viewer's set beliefs.

Collectively, all our artists selected for Beyond Eden impressed many and represented well to the over 3000 attendees.

THE SHARPIE SHOW II

Crewest is currently accepting submissions for The Sharpie Show II, opening in December 2010.

“The Sharpie Show II” is an exhibit featuring unique works of art from all over the world, created solely by practitioners of the famed marker. These artists have decided to uncap their creativity using nothing but a Sharpie!

Please read below for submission guidelines:

-Email samples of your artwork and/or website for consideration to: sharpieshow@crewest.com

-No more than 3 pieces per artist will be accepted.

-All pieces entered shall not exceed 36" in any direction (all entries combined)

-Artwork must be created with at least 60% Sharpie product, 100% preferred
(any color , size, + marker style accepted)

-No unframed works on paper will be accepted.

-Art must be ready to hang. If necessary, please properly frame the work in a manner which can easily be hung and protects the piece from damage.

-Artist responsible for ALL shipping costs to and from gallery, no exceptions.

-Retail prices shall be within reason.

-Sales commission 50/50 split (between artist/gallery) on sold artwork.

-Open to artists 18+ years of age.

*Submission does not guarantee inclusion to the show. Final decision is up to the curator and gallery director Man One.

OCTOBER FEATURED ARTIST: MASON BROWN

We are so very proud to feature Mason Brown during the month of October. Mason Brown is an insanely brilliant graphic artist and filmmaker who seriously gets down with cardboard in a way unimaginable. As founder of Cardboard Robot, a company which makes top of the line cardboard furniture, Brown moved on further and has now brought his newest invention Clocky.

We were lucky enough to catch an inside look at this insane artists home to realize not only does he make Clocky but he lives in a world of Clocky. He is consumed by his creative vision and continues everyday to perfect the Clocky.

Now on display in the featured artist room, Mason Brown has created an installation which is a slice of the world of Clocky. His cardboard creations have taken over. Check it out:

About the Clock Builder...

Mason Brown is a graphic artist and
filmmaker who resides
in Long Beach, California.
In 1998, Brown founded
Cardboard Robot as an extension
of various multi-media projects
developed by the artist. Resulting from exhaustive
research into the realm of religious
mysticism and secret societies,
Clocky is the invention of Mason Brown -
Founder and Creative
Director of Cardboard Robot.

A veteran of Desert Storm, much of Brown's
work is aimed at promoting social awareness
through politically charged images. Started as an
8mm short film by the same title about
the excessive age of technology, Cardboard Robot
presents work in many disciplines including
an apparel collection and re-purposed cardboard
furniture all under the creative direction of
Mason Brown.
Now through the generous donations of many
devoted disciples of the Church of Clocky,
home of these mystical fortune telling devices,
Clocky has been realized into a limited
series of hand screen printed, signed
and numbered devices
hand assembled by the artist.
